More ways to reach someone

Veterans Crisis Line

You served. This line serves you. For veterans, service members, National Guard and Reserve, and the people who love them. It is separate from VA benefits and you do not need to be enrolled.

Crisis Text Line

If talking feels like too much, write instead. A trained counselor texts with you, usually within a few minutes.

Anywhere in the world

Find a Helpline lists free, vetted crisis lines in over 130 countries, by what you are going through and how you would rather talk.

In immediate danger

If you or someone near you is in immediate physical danger, call your local emergency number now. In the US, that is 911.

Worried about someone?

Asking directly, "are you thinking about suicide?", does not plant the idea. It opens a door. Listen without fixing, stay with them, and help them reach one of the lines above. Every line here also takes calls from people who are worried about someone else.

Ways to steady yourself

Small, ordinary things that genuinely help, gathered from what actually works. None of this replaces real care.

Protect your sleep

Sleep steadies everything else. A regular wind-down and a dark, cool room do more than they seem to.

Move a little

A short walk, especially outside in daylight, lifts mood about as reliably as anything.

Reach one person

Tell someone you trust how you actually are. Connection is not a luxury; it is how we settle.

Breathe slower

When things spike, make your out-breath longer than your in-breath. It tells your body it is safe.

Ease the scroll

Notice when the feed is making things worse, and give yourself permission to set it down.

Be kind to your mind

Talk to yourself the way you would to a good friend. You are not failing; you are human.

Ask for real care

If the heaviness stays, a doctor or therapist can help. Asking for support is strength, not weakness.

Atreeum is a private journal, not a medical service or a crisis line. It never diagnoses and never replaces a person. If you are in danger, please use one of the lines above.
